Especially during the competition season, you want to steal the show with a clean and shiny horse. But which shampoo is best to use? Because of course, you don't want to damage your horse's skin. We tell you all about it in our blog!
Consider the horse's skin
A horse shampoo should not affect the natural oil layer of the horse. Therefore, you should always take into account the pH value of the shampoo. The pH value is the acidity of the skin. This acidity protects the horse against heat, cold, but also against bacteria. To avoid disturbing the normal pH of the horse and thus preventing infections, it is best to choose a pH-neutral horse shampoo.
The pH value of a horse's skin is on average between 7.0 and 7.4. This means their skin is pH neutral. In contrast, the pH value of humans is slightly lower, averaging between 4.0 and 5.5. Therefore, it's never a good idea to use human shampoos on horses. If you use a shampoo with too low a pH value, the horse's skin will dry out, which can lead to dry and flaky skin. However, a pH value that is too high is also not recommended because it absorbs the natural oils of the skin. This makes the skin very sensitive, which can then cause infections. It is therefore very important to always keep an eye on the pH value of the shampoo.
Equi Wash
If you frequently attend competitions and therefore need a clean horse, you will probably need to wash regularly. Equi Wash from Cavalor is the ideal shampoo for giving your horse a delightful shower regularly. Thanks to the pH-neutral formula, this shampoo is not harmful to the skin, but it still gets your horse nice and clean. Ideal for frequent use!
Equi Wash can be used directly on the coat or can be diluted in a bit of lukewarm water. After washing, rinse your horse thoroughly and you're ready! Make sure all soap residues are rinsed out because left-over shampoo can also cause skin irritation.
Derma Wash
Has your horse contracted a fungal infection or another skin condition? Then it's wise to choose a hygienic shampoo, for example, Derma Wash from Cavalor. This deep-cleansing shampoo based on chlorhexidine is pH-neutral and enriched with glycerin. This provides moisture to the skin and a shiny coat. Derma Wash is extremely suitable for horses with skin flakes, a dull coat, or a skin condition.
Derma Wash can be used directly on your horse's coat with a sponge or can be diluted in a bucket of lukewarm water. Let it soak in well for maximum effect, then rinse thoroughly. To prevent infections, you can always use Derma Wash.
Bianco Wash
Do you have a gray horse? Then you know how difficult it can be to make them look bright white. Especially the day before an important competition, they like to get extra dirty. So, you need an intense shampoo to get all the stains clean again. Here too, you should always ensure the shampoo is pH-neutral. An ideal option for this is Bianco Wash from Cavalor. With this highly concentrated shampoo, you can get the most stubborn stains sparkling clean again.
Wet your horse well before washing with Bianco Wash. Then dilute the shampoo with water or apply directly to the coat. Rinse thoroughly, and you're done!
